Something about March and lambs...
Hi friends! We are early! Somehow! And we have some news-bytes for you!
First up, Lori Emerson was interviewed by Samuel Arbesman for The Orthogonal Bet podcast; she had the chance to talk about her new book, Other Networks: A Radical Technology Sourcebook, as well as her work both in media archaeology and running the Media Archaeology Lab.
MAL events!
We've kicked off our Practitioner in Residence series with a bang (or a boo?) - Dr. Katherine Guiness is in the lab for the next little while and has a number of events planned...
Katherine says: Want to learn about the long history of media, technology, and spiritualism? Are you currently being haunted and need some advice? Want to learn how to hunt ghosts yourself? Do you think YOU might be a ghost? (Thereβs a high probability that you are!)
Come to a free consultation at the Media Archaeology Lab with Dr. Katherine Guinness, ghost (and art) theorist from the University of Maryland during the MAL open hours, except when she hosts office hours at the CASE W250 pop-up space on Tuesday March 3 at 3:30 PM (all times are Boulder time, GMT -07:00) or is otherwise conducting one of the following events, livestreamed on our Twitch or in-person at the MAL:
- March 2, 11 AM Creative Misuse of Media & Intro to Ghost Hunting Lecture
- March 3, 2 PM Dream Incubation Practice (Creating our Ghost Bodies)
- March 4, 2 PM Tech Time with Ian McDermott
- March 4, 4 PM Ghost Help Hotline
- March 5, 11 AM Making Music for and with Ghosts
- March 5, 5 - 8 PM Live-stream SΓ©ance
- March 5, 8 PM Ghost Hunting Live at MAL
We'll also be hosting Halim Madi as a visiting artist the week of March 9 - Halim will be installed in the pop-up space during business hours to perform an iteration of works called "Singulars". More information about live performance hours will be posted on the calendar as we have it, but in the meantime read more about past works on Halim's website.
Our second resident, Clemens SchΓΆll, joins us starting the last week of March and will be around for most of April, so watch for more details about associated public events in the April newsletter.
Finally, our "free garage sale" event was a great success - so much so that we'll be trying a similar thing again in April. Keep an eye out for dates on that too!
Non-MAL events in the next week!
