though not quite so late as the 21st night...

We feel a little like we hit the ground before we were ready to be running this fall semester, but we're getting our feet and happy to share some news with you...

First and most pressing! MAL founder & director Lori Emerson will be giving a lecture performance in celebration of Other Networks: A Radical Technology Sourcebook. The event is tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 9) at the Boulder Public Library in the Canyon Theater. 5 - 6:30 PM. Admission is free, and a limited number of the copies of Other Networks will be available for sale.

Second, we have a curated pop-up exhibition again in the CASE building, room W250! This semester we're calling it Media Before Media, and it showcases media technologies that are precursors to today's mediated world... including automata, magic lantern and other pre-cinema toys, early A.I. experiments, mimeograph and spirit duplication.

Third, as a very exciting part of the pop-up exhibition, we're so thrilled to showcase work from two graduate students, Maya Buffet-Davis and Allison Radomski.

Maya has installed her conversation machines, a poetic and very analog interactive interrogation of AI chatbots made of ceramic and wood. Bring a friend and have a mediated conversation by way of dice and text-on-clay.

Allison will be hosting Magic Lantern Mondays each week from 5-7. During those times, you can experience Mundane Magic Lantern Spectacular (MMLS), an interactive multimedia projection that uses antique and newly created Magic Lantern slides to interrogate the tangled intersections of life-changing technology and world-shaping marketing.

Any last-minute announcements will be posted on our social media accounts as best we can, but please keep in mind that our hours are volunteer hosted and sometimes last-minute emergencies happen.
