May!
We've made it through another semester! It's raining buckets, as is traditional for... May? Something about flowers and whatever. Anyhow...
Housekeeping!
We're moving into summer, so make sure you double-check hours before you visit. Open house times will definitely be shifting to accomodate schedules. The most reliable place to check our schedule remains this pinned post on our Mastodon profile: https://post.lurk.org/@mediaarchaeologylab/109677062460615838. If those times don't work, reach out and we'll see if we can schedule a private tour.
Our pop-up exhibition on central campus in CASE W250 will also remain open over the summer, though again with more limited hours. Check out the public Pop-Up Calendar for that schedule. Private tours are also available on a limited basis- feel free to get in touch and see if we can schedule something.
We will be changing over the pop-up exhibition theme over the summer, so keep an eye out and if you haven't had a chance to see the Other Networks setup & wanted to, make sure you stop by!
And finally, if you want one of our new stickers, you'll have to come see us!

Things that happened in April!
We put out a fresh call for Practitioner-in-Residence applications for the 2025/26 academic year! There is still time to apply - applications close May 15th. Take a look at the application form - full text of the residency call is linked from the form.
On Thursday April 17th MAL founder & director Lori Emerson gave a keynote presentation on her book Other Networks for a symposium at the University of Aachen (German) "After Networks: Reframing Scale, Reimagining Connections." And on Saturday April 26th, Lori had her first official book launch in New York City for Other Networks: A Radical Technology Sourcebook, hosted by her favorite organization Rhizome (a non-profit arts organization that champions born-digital art and culture through commissions, exhibitions, scholarship, and digital preservation) as part of a series of events called “Another Internet Is Possible.”
We finally got a NABU up and running and connected to the NABU.ca RetroNet! It takes a little more finesse than our Minitel setup at the moment, but we're working on making it a more stable/persistent connection.

We also are incredibly close to having a working Apple Lisa again - we're chasing down screen issues at the moment. But, it's almost there!

And finally, we were very excited to be the subject of a documentary shot by high school students from the Denver School of the Arts - look out for the completed short soon!
Things happening in the near future!
MAL Pal Spike is gauging interest and availability for an in-person amateur radio training class in June. If you are in the Boulder and interested in HAM licensing, fill out the interest form.
Managing director libi will be leading two workshops at the Boulder Public Library Studio 24 space in May. The first, DIY Radio Transmitter, will be held Saturday May 24th. The second, Take It Apart(y), will be held Saturday May 31st. Space is limited, and registration opens 2 weeks ahead of the workshop date, so if you're interested make sure you secure a spot!
We'll be hosting a variety of learning and social events in the lab and pop-up space over the summer, so keep an eye on the calendar & on our social media announcements!
That was probably not everything, but it's as much as we have for now!
